“Paperback Writer” was written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon and released by The Beatles on the A side of their eleventh single. It quickly went to the number one spot in both Britain and the United States and was the first single by the group that was not a love song. It did not appear on an original Beatles album, but can be heard on the compilation Red Album 1962-1966. The song has no doubt inspired a generation of aspiring novelists.
